To My Sisters in the Fight®

I could have been dead, sleeping in my grave, but God made death behave. God blessed me to see another day.

And because I am still here, I don’t take that gift lightly.

When I made the decision to cut my hair, I did it in solidarity with my Sisters in the Fight®. I wanted to do more than simply say, “I understand.” I wanted, in my own way, to put my feet in your shoes—to experience even a small part of what it may feel like to look in the mirror and suddenly see yourself differently.

In that moment, I gained a deeper understanding.

Hair is personal. Our reflection is personal. And when something changes that we didn’t choose, it can bring emotions that others may never fully understand.

So, Sister, please don’t be hard on yourself.

There may be moments when you ask, “God, what did I do to deserve this?” You may question yourself, your life, and even your faith. But please don’t convince yourself that you did something wrong or that what you’re going through is some kind of punishment.

Sometimes life brings us battles we never asked to fight and journeys we never expected to take.

Keep praying.

You don’t have to have the perfect words. You don’t have to have lived a perfect life. Just talk to God from your heart. Because one thing I know for myself is that God hears everybody’s prayers—even a sinner’s prayer.

I know because He heard mine.

And I’m still here.

To every woman and every little girl facing cancer, medical treatment, hair loss, fear, uncertainty, or simply trying to recognize herself again, I want you to know that you are seen. You are loved. And you are not alone.

Your hair may change. Your reflection may change. Your circumstances may change. But none of those things can take away the woman you are.

With courage, strength, family, love, and faith, we keep moving forward. There may be days when you cry. There may be days when you’re afraid. And there may be days when you simply don’t feel strong.

On those days, give yourself grace.

I am grateful to still be here. Grateful to serve. Grateful that God has given me another day to stand beside you.

And to all of my Sisters in the Fight®: I stand with you. I pray with you. And I will continue to fight alongside you.
